Administrative History

Aanad Panchayat is situated in the Nedumangad Taluk of Thiruvananthapuram district. The Aanad Panchayat was formed on January 1, 1952, encompassing the entire Aanad Village. The first governing body came into existence on November 1, 1953, with N. Kunjukrishna Nair elected as the panchayat's first President.

In its initial days, the panchayat office functioned out of a two-story building near the Aanad Temple, owned by the family of Zainuddin Sir. Three years later, in 1956, the panchayat office was relocated to a new building constructed according to a special design on land donated by M. Kumara Pillai of Pachaveedu. During that time, the panchayat held the authority to appoint staff, as a Panchayat Common Service or standardized service and wage rules did not exist back then.

In 1976, Aanad Panchayat was divided into two entities: Aanad and Panavoor. Committees were nominated with K. Parameswaran Nair as President for Aanad Panchayat and Haneefa as President for Panavoor Panchayat. These committees were formed by adding newly nominated members alongside the existing panchayat members, and that governing body continued for a period of 15 years.

Aanad Grama Panchayat is a First-Grade Panchayat with an area of 24.15 square kilometers. It is bordered by Nandiyode and Panavoor panchayats to the north, Tolicode Panchayat to the east, Vembayam Panchayat to the west, and Nedumangad Municipality to the south.
